Fire trooper union boss

State trooper union president David Jones proved yesterday he is unfit to be a trooper, let alone lead a law enforcement union. While it's understandable he might have been unhappy about radio talk show host Craig Carton publicizing troopers' Web site comments calling for a ticket-writing blitz, Jones' response - holding a press conference and holding up a paper with Carton's home address and license plate number on it - is inexcusable.
Regardless of whether Jones violated any laws or regulations regarding release of Carton's personal information, State Attorney General Stuart Rabner should waste no time in instructing State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes to cut this guy loose. He's an embarrassment to the state, to his union and to the law enforcement community.

So, absent any violations of the law, you are for firing this man because he said something that displeased you?

If that were valid criteria, there would be no newspapers....

Nice to see the press advocating due process here. I guess those kids in Duke are lucky that people can get due process in North Carolina.

If David Jones and/or some other Trooper accessed DMV records or otherwise used NJSP computers for no legitimate purpose, then they should be fired. Those "facts" must, however, be dtermined after an investigation and the affected Troopers should be entitled to the same due process that any other Trooper facing disciplinary charges is entitled to. (e.g., a fair hearing)

Jones has proved beyond any doubt that he's a loose canon and unprofessional that should be stripped of his badge, gun and pension as would happen in most other states. Unfortunately this will probably just blow over under the watchful eyes of Fuentes and Rabner

You want Stu Rabner to actually "do" something? I hate to break the news to you, Mr. Bergmann, but Stu doesn't "do" much.

Trooper Jones, just the type of cool, calm, under control police officer you need in a serious situation. Ha!
