Falling gas prices: Politics at work?
The conspiracy theorists say Bush and Cheney have managed to get their oil friends to manipulate prices in time for the congressional elections. Do you buy that? I don't. Last year, after prices topped out at $3.23 a gallon post-Katrina, they fell below $2 by November, then shot back up to about $3 by this July.
Does anyone have any theories as to why gasoline prices are so much cheaper in south Jersey these days?

Remember adjusting your car's idle in the old days? You would turn the screw until you finally detected a decline in engine performance, then you would back it off just a little bit. Similarly, I think the oil companies are longing to get to $3/gal permanently, but they have to back off when they perceive consumer sentiment is strong enough to cause a significant drop in consumption (smaller cars, less driving, etc.) Oil companies don't want consumers to abandon SUVs as the car manufacturers bring out their new models in the Fall.
I AGREE, THE OIL COMPANIES ARE MANIPULATING THE MARKET.
A FEW VACATIONERS BURNING GAS IN THE SUMMER IS NOT GOING TO SPIKE THE MARKET.
I think anyone who doesn't think Bush and Cheney don't have anything to do with oil prices should open their eyes-it's not a coincidence. It's also no coincidence that though we are facing a warmer winter the only fuel price not going down is fuel oil.
